The Velociraptor is a genus of small feathered theropod dinosaurs which lived in the Late Cretaceous era, approximately 71-75 million years ago.
Velociraptors did not live in packs, as commonly thought. Velociraptors did not have pronated hands, had visible feathers on their arms and had long tails with a plume of feathers on the end, which was used primarily for balancing the animal when it was chasing prey. Velociraptors are a genus of nocturnal Dromaeosaurids, which consists of generally small dinosaurs, but some species like the Utahraptor grew to become 6 meters long, well over three times the size of Velociraptor. Velociraptors were not as intelligent as commonly thought (likely had the intelligence of a pigeon at most).
